Dr. Poyraz Sahin

Docteur en psychologie & psychanalyste

Dr. Poyraz Sahin
I hold a doctorate in psychology and work as a Jungian psychoanalyst, psychotherapist, researcher, and university lecturer. I am also the author of several publications, some of which are available on this website. My academic background and extensive professional experience have shaped a practice grounded in an open, understanding, and compassionate perspective on human difficulties. My experience as an immigrant has also broadened my worldview and deepened my understanding of the human experience. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work with people from diverse religious, ethnic, sexual, and cultural backgrounds, allowing me to develop expertise in intercultural therapy and gender studies. Inspired by the human mind and its potential, I have made it my mission to support individuals in gaining greater agency over their lives through psychotherapy and personal growth. My aim is to help each person realize their potential and build a fulfilling life that is authentic and meaningful to them.

Areas of Expertise

I specialize in:
  • Humanistic / integrative psychotherapy
  • Psychoanalysis, with a Jungian approach
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Intercultural therapy: feelings of not belonging or not feeling at home, difficulties with adaptation, beliefs shaped by different cultural backgrounds, adolescence and risk-taking behaviors in the context of migration, and related issues
  • Gay-friendly (LGBTTQI+), non-binary, and polyamory-friendly therapy: experiences of actual or perceived discrimination in different areas of life, both personal and professional; the development and exploration of sexual orientation; transgender identity and experiences; difficulties with coming out; challenges in embracing a sexuality that differs from social norms; and difficulties associated with living with HIV.

My Research

My research takes an integrative approach to the study of organizational socialization processes, with a particular focus on diversity in the workplace. This includes research involving young adults from minority backgrounds, particularly sexual minorities (LGBTQI+). My research is based on the general hypothesis that processes of integration, organizational socialization, and future planning are influenced, on the one hand, by the presence of heterosexist norms and perceived discrimination in the workplace and, on the other, by sexual identity developed previously across different areas of life. The questions guiding my research can be formulated as follows:
  1. To what extent can previous experiences—whether positive or negative—within the family, educational, or broader social environment influence career choices, as well as the expectations and identity-management strategies, particularly in terms of self-presentation, developed by young employees at the beginning of their organizational integration?
  2. Given the presence of heteronormative discourse within organizations and the risk of stigmatization faced by young employees with a homosexual or bisexual orientation, how do they navigate the integration period within an organization where their identity remains a minority, particularly in terms of self-presentation strategies?
